Racial Imagely in Montana

University of MontanaMarilyn was one of the Featured Speakers at the Create Writing Conference at the University of Montana in Missoula. Organized by Professor Prageeta Sharma, herself a poet of distinction, this year’s much anticipated conference was titled Thinking Its Presence: Race, Creative Writing, and Literary Study. Its central theme was the Racial Imagery.

Conference’s title references an influencial new book by Dorothy WangThinking Its Presence:
Form, Race, and Subjectivity in Contemporary Asian American Poetry, published by Stanford University Press.

As a part of visiting her home town, Portland, Marilyn  gave a reading at Lewis and Clark University on Monday, September 29, sponsored by their Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement program.  She also read at Willamette University on Oct 2,  2014, inspiring one of the students to sing a poem.

OPBMarilyn was interviewed by OPB, the local Public Television station, and read One Child Has Brown Eyes from Hard Love Province.

SDSU SealThe Hugh C. Hyde Living Writers Series, hosted by the Department of English and Comparative Literature at the San Diego State University, celebrates 25 years of SDSU’s MFA in Creative Writing.

Marilyn Chin, SDSU Emeritus Professor, presented on Wednesday, September 24th, at 7 p.m. She read from her latest book, Hard Love Province, and from her earlier work.
